What is a product option?

An option can be something that further describes a product or is offered in addition to a product.

Example 1: If you sold shirts, you could set up a "Size" option, so your customers could select between small, medium and large.

Example 2: If you sold computers, you could set up a "Software" option, so your customers could add a software title to their cart in addition to a computer.

How do I create options for my products?

Please follow these instructions:

1) Click on Products in the top menu bar.

2) Click on Edit next to any product.

3) Click on the Options button.

4) In the Product Options area, you can create product options.

How do I use the settings in the Product Options area?

In the Name box, enter the name of the option.
Examples: Color, Size, Additional Services, Place of Birth

Check the Attribute box to make the option a Product Attribute.

In the Option Values box, enter the options from which your customers can choose. Be sure to enter each option on its own line.

If you would like an option to add to the price of the product, enter "=" and the amount. You can also enter a negative amount, which would reduce the price of the product.

Example 1: The product is a shirt. A "Size" option is being created so customers can select the size of shirt they want to order. An X-large size, will add an additional $2.00 to the price of the shirt.

Option Name: Size
Option Values:
Small
Medium
Large
X-Large=2.00

Example 2: The product is software. An "Additional Products" option is being created as a way to upsell. Customers can order related products along with their software purchase.

Option Name: Additional Products
Option Values:
100 Best Games CD-ROM=9.50
CD Disk Cleaner=2.45
24 Disk CD Storage Case=14.99

Example 3: The product is a computer and comes standard with a 40GB hard drive. A "Storage Options" option is being created so customers can configure their system. A customer can add a larger hard drive (increases product price) or a smaller one (decreases produce price).

Option Name: Storage Options
Option Values:
120GB hard drive=299.50
80GB hard drive=179.00
20GB hard drive=-59.95

To delete an option, remove its name from the "Name" box and click on the "Save" button.

How do I add a shipping weight or flat shipping charge to product options?

An additional shipping weight or shipping charge can be applied to any product option in the Option Values box.

Example 1: If the product was a mobile phone, you could create a "Battery" option.

Option Name: Battery

Option Values:
Standard Battery
Quick Charge Battery=10.00,1.00

In this example, the Standard Battery would not increase the product price or affect shipping. The Quick Charge Battery would add $10.00 to the price and 1.00 lb. to the weight of the order.

Example 2:

Option Name: Battery

Option Values:
Standard Battery
Quick Charge Battery=10.00,FLAT:1.00

In this example, the Quick Charge Battery would add $10.00 to the price and $1.00 to the cost of shipping.
