What is a product attribute?
An attribute is a unique quality that is part of a product. For example, size and color are attributes of a shirt.
Do I have to create attributes for my products?
No. You only need to create product attributes if you want to track inventory for different attribute combinations. For example, if you sold shirts and wanted to track inventory for large/blue shirts separately from large/green shirts.
How do I create attributes for my products?
Please follow these instructions:
1. Click on Products in the top menu bar.
2. Click on Edit next to any product.
3. Click on the Options button.
4. In the Product Options area, you can create product attributes.
How do I setup inventory control for product attributes?
After you have created attributes for a product, please follow these instructions:
1. Click on Products in the top menu bar.
2. Click on Edit next to any product.
3. Click on the Manage Product/Attribute Inventory link.
4. In the Product/Attribute Inventory area, you can select different combinations of attributes and edit inventory settings for each.
How do I use the settings in the Product/Attributes Inventory area?
In the SKU box, enter a unique identifier for the product/attribute combination (e.g., 974584 or H45W-28).
In the Inventory box, enter the amount in stock for this product/attribute combination.
In the Warn box, enter a low inventory warning amount. If this amount is reached, you will be sent a notice by email.
Check the No Add box if you would like to prevent customers from adding the product/attribute combination to their cart if inventory reaches zero.
You are not required to specify inventory settings for all attribute combinations. However, inventory will not be tracked separately for attribute combinations that are not defined. Your product's main inventory settings will be used in this case.
